My journey to becoming a yoga teacher began on 3rd of August 2015 and lasted until the 16th. Where did this wonderful journey take place? It took place in Aegina, the island where I live. And I took part in that journey, and you can imagine how proud I felt when the lessons were taught in places which have resonated over time. I won’t go into historical detail but I shall show you how I felt doing yoga in those places, along with many of my colleagues from abroad who also found it very moving.
We live in a blessed place and each one of us has a responsibility to promote it in the best possible way. I shall begin with our first meeting, which took place on the beach at Agia Marina, in Aegina.
A well organised ‘squeaky-clean’ beach, awarded a prestigious Blue Flag, which became our training site many times, either on the beautiful sand (Yoga on the Beach) or training on a special yoga board in the sea (Stand Up Paddle Board), it is a wonderful place to be, particularly early in the morning or at sunset!
I will never forget those 13 days, how I got to learn Agia Marina from edge to edge, from path to pathway as well as from shop to shop – all so hospitable, willing and happy to help us.
Afaia Temple was a magic place to do yoga, right in front of the temple. It was like a rebirth, and I could feel my soul fill with peace.
No achievement is as important as serenity of the spirit.
Irides Hotel in Agious hosted us for several lessons in the amazing beachside wooden area they have constructed, the combination of the floating sails, the bamboo and the fresh scent from the sea left me and my colleagues speechless – a perfect place to hold a yoga class
The place that was the most moving of all, was Aegina’s ancient olive grove.
Whatever one writes one can’t capture the magic of the place and the feelings it evokes in just a few lines. But when a colleague from Canada began teaching and just couldn’t continue for 10 minutes, because the beauty of the place had literally moved her to tears – well this of course affected us all too.
I couldn’t not teach yoga on Aeginitissa beach – which has hosted us since 2005 – a beach full of eucalyptus trees, lots of shade, gorgeous sand and the most amazing sunsets

None will forget the image of Aegina’s beautiful harbour as seen from the Naval Organisaton of Aegina (NOA), and doing yoga there is almost like being right on the water and I saw yet again, what a beautiful place our island is.
They say that the greatest wealth and the strongest power is to be able, at the same time, to clear your mind and body of all the negativity which blocks us and stops our progress.
Aegina has the ability, through its wonderful locations, to achieve this, she has the wealth and the power to do it.
I experienced that this year, and I will experience it every year.
