When an island is unexplored, like Lemnos, it is a challenge not to want to get to know it better and combine it with alternative holidays such as a yoga retreat.
Lemnos is a special island that is unlike any other in Greece. Its nature is generously offered to the visitor, with 30% of the island’s acreage being protected and falling under Natura 2000. The island promotes an authenticity, with strong elements of Greece’s tradition, primary production, agricultural life and insularity. If you combine its long history as the island of Hephaestus, but also modern elements as a global destination for wind and kite surfers, then you have no choice but to characterize it as a surprise island.
The purpose of this yoga retreat, in mid-July 2020, was not just to isolate ourselves from prolonged confinement, but to discover the secret beauties of the island and especially its flora and fauna. Our excursions were divided into three sections, where the first was Nature with the Sand Dunes, Alykes and Faraklo, the second was History with Hephaestia, Zoodochos Pigi and Poliochni, and the third was hiking in Panagia Kakaviotissa (the only uncovered church in the world) and of course in the capital Myrina with its imposing castle and colorful harbors. We always ended up on one of the beautiful beaches of the island and enjoyed the amazing local food.
Lemnos is a station island for every traveler, with rich energy elements. Such direct contact with nature opens new paths in the body, in the mind and in the soul. All this mystery composes the canvas for a unique yoga destination.
