A Life-Changing Experience: The Yoga Retreat in Argentina and Brazil From the tango of Buenos Aires to the power of the Iguazu Falls and the breath of yoga in Rio.
I have just returned. My body is here, but my heart is still traveling.
I have just returned from a journey that felt like more than just a retreat—it was an internal voyage, a calling of the soul. Together with a wonderful group of people, we experienced 12 days filled with mindfulness, nature, silence, movement, and deep emotion. From the bustling yet enchanting Buenos Aires to the staggering power of the Iguazu Falls and, finally, the vibrancy of Rio de Janeiro, every moment had something to tell us.
Buenos Aires – The Beginning
Arriving in Buenos Aires found us a bit tired but full of anticipation. This city dances to the rhythm of tango, football, nostalgia, and vitality. We walked through its neighborhoods, breathed in its culture, and practiced yoga after a tango lesson—each breath bringing us closer to the present, to the moment. Highlights: The tango lesson, the professional tango show, and the authentic experience with the Argentine cowboys, the Gauchos.
Iguazu – The Power of Nature
Nothing can prepare you for the Iguazu Falls. The word “magnificence” is simply not enough. We stood before the “Devil’s Throat” (Garganta del Diablo), speechless—and not because we were practicing silence. The water fell with such force that it felt as if it were cleansing not just the body, but the soul. There, we meditated to the sound of the cascading waters. This experience was one of the most intense of my life. The falls guided us with such serenity that we felt we belonged to something much greater than ourselves. Highlights: The boat trip under the falls (where we truly got soaked!) and the helicopter ride for a bird’s-eye view.
Rio de Janeiro – The Opening of the Heart
The journey concluded in Rio—a city full of heart, smiles, and rhythm. From Copacabana to Christ the Redeemer, every moment was a reminder to live with lightness and presence. Yoga on the beach in the morning, as the sun rose over the Atlantic… there are no words. Only gratitude. Highlights: The Samba show, a football match watching Flamengo at the majestic Maracanã, the statue of Christ the Redeemer and Sugarloaf Mountain, the colorful Selarón Steps in Lapa, the Sao Bento Monastery, the Museum of Tomorrow (designed by Calatrava), and the historic Café Colombo. Above all, however, was the true experience of the “Beach Life” at Copacabana.

This was my first trip outside Europe besides the USA, where I did my master’s. Two countries full of commonalities and contrasts with particularly friendly and hospitable people. Latin American countries were first on my list, and I am especially grateful to have made this trip through Fotini and Petros! I would have loved to have come to Cuba, which was the first trip I wanted to make while I was still in the US, but unfortunately, I had to return due to COVID.
